Going in after others pulled out: Fogo Data Centers announces new multi-tenant facility in New Orleans

Existing facility to be upgraded with multi- million dollar investment; fully replicated to nearby Georgia facility, and expandable to 32,000 square feet to serve existing and incoming technology companies and organizations.

NEW ORLEANS (Sep 1, 2011) — In less than a year, Fogo Data Centers (Fogo) has more than tripled in size. That’s because the upstart private cloud, data hosting, and colocation company has announced a new 22,000 square foot facility in downtown New Orleans (pictured), adding to its inaugural 10,000 square foot center in Georgia.

“Having suffered through Hurricane Katrina, businesses here are well aware of the need for secure colocation, private clouds, and disaster recovery products,” says Brooks Snow, CEO Fogo Data Centers. “Even so, there is very little competition here, with no enterprise data centers serving the area. That said, we believe our network of regional and fully replicated data centers will be a perfect fit for New Orleans’ businesses as they expand and rebuild.”

Located on the 10th floor in the New Orleans Exchange Centre (935 Gravier Street in the Central Business District), the site was formerly the corporate data center within Chevron’s headquarters. Fogo plans an investment of $5 million in facility and equipment upgrades to serve local commercial, educational, and medical organizations interested in benefiting from smart cloud technology, while reducing costs and computing headaches.

“We look forward to being an economic development partner with GNO, Inc., and Louisiana Economic Development to bolster the New Orleans community and serve as a backbone provider to help with the recruitment of new technology companies and consumer savvy startups,” added Josh Rhine, business developer for Fogo Data Centers.

Fogo hopes to accomplish this by adding 15-20 jobs with above average wages and a strong community involvement, with the larger hope being their new facility will help attract more companies to the area such as the recently announced Gameloft, and other target industries in need of data center services in New Orleans.

Fogo’s new facility is expandable to 32,000 square feet and everything in the facility is geographically replicated to the nearby Georgia data center for increased disaster recovery protection, says Snow. Fogo has also partnered with multiple tier 1, premium connectivity providers such as Level 3 and others for maximum uptime.

Like the inaugural Fogo Data Centers facility in Georgia, the New Orleans site will be impressive to say the least—not unlike something you would expect from Google, IBM or Facebook, only admittedly on a much smaller scale.
